«Perdurará por siempre como símbolo de la capacidad de la música para iluminar, elevar y desafiar» describe el sitio Rolling Stone la canción «Manifiesto» de Víctor Jara, incluída en el puesto 52 de las «100 mejores canciones de protesta de todos los tiempos». Este listado fue realizado por el sitio estadounidense que incluyó en su mayoría a temas anglosajones y el activista chileno fue incorporado en este ránking.
Estas 100 mejores canciones de protesta cuenta con diversos estilos musicales que pasan desde el jazz de antes de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y el folk de los sesenta hasta la música house de los ochenta, el R&B de los 2000 y el hip-hop cubano del 2020.
Según publicó el sitio, el ránking fue creado con tracks que «denuncian la opresión y exigen justicia, otras son plegarias por un cambio positivo; algunas te agarran de los hombros y te gritan en la cara, otras son intentos personales y privados de encarnar sutilmente la naturaleza contradictoria de la lucha política y el cambio desde adentro».
